Voices of Change: Eric from Vancouver, Canada
"These days, the mercury climbs higher than before, making air conditioning a necessity for maintaining productivity"
What is your name and where are from?
I’m Eric Wirschingh, from the Vancouver area in British Columbia.
Have you heard the term Climate change?
I’ve heard about climate change through the news most of the time.
What is the climate over there?
I’m glad to share my thoughts on the ever-evolving climate and its impact on our lives. Living on Canada’s west coast, I find myself surrounded by a unique environment, a temperate rainforest, to be precise. Unlike much of Canada, we don’t experience extreme weather fluctuations throughout the year. However, rain is our constant companion. Our climate leans toward the moderate side, and we have little bit of humidity in the air.
Do you guys see any changes in the climate during past few years?
At 32 years old, I reflect on the past, and surprisingly, not much has drastically ch
anged. Yet, there’s a subtle shift. For example I now rely on air conditioning during heat waves. These days, the mercury climbs higher than before, making air conditioning a necessity for maintaining productivity.
What does your family think about the climate change?
My belief aligns with scientific consensus: global warming is the driving force behind climate change. Trusting the experts and their meticulously researched reports, I recognize the urgency of addressing this pressing issue. I believe my family shares a similar perspective. We collectively acknowledge the reality of climate change and its implications. Our views align with the broader understanding of this critical challenge.
What is your opinion on climate change, why does it occur, and what is the main cause?
Our region has witnessed its share of natural calamities. Torrential rain, floods, and storms have directly impacted us. I vividly recall a day when 300mm of rain fell within 24 hours, leading to the closure of major highways. It was a stark reminder of our vulnerability. To combat climate change, we must invest in resilient infrastructure. By fortifying our systems, we can withstand the onslaught of natural disasters. Additionally, policy tools from the government play a crucial role. Implementing effective policies will help us collectively tackle this global crisis.
